Sunnyside Fruit – Ireland’s Frozen Fruit Providers

Sunnyside Fruit Ltd. is a family-owned and family-run wholesale frozen fruit business based in Rathcormac, Co. Cork

A few  years  ago we added another side  to our  business and that is supplying wildflower meadows, gamecrops  and wildbird cover crops. We use a different website to sell these and there you find advice on the ground preparation, sowing and maintenance of all these as well as the facilities  to purchase online.

We have been growing soft fruit since 1983 and now specialise in supplying frozen produce to both individual customers and the Irish food trade with premium quality wholesale frozen fruit and other produce, sold in all kinds of quantities.

I started on my father’s farm and later purchased my own land where the farm is today here in Rathcormac. At first, our business focused on growing fruit for the fresh market, both wholesale and retail. 50 acres of soft fruit were grown annually here for many years, and so we understand exactly what goes into producing a premium frozen fruit product.

Changing with the Food Industry

We have been in the fruit business since 1983 and have seen many changes in products and customer demands. In all this time, we have moved and adapted with the wholesale frozen fruit industry. We know what each and every one of our customers want and we supply exactly what they want.

We always put the customer’s needs first.

Delivering Wholesale Frozen Fruit to the Irish Market

In 2005 we built a cold store on the farm, which is capable of holding 300 pallets of product. Our main business now is importing and distributing frozen fruit and some vegetables from all over Ireland, north and south: you can choose from a great selection of orchard fruit, citrus, frozen berries, and exotic fruit, as well as a range of vegetables. We  have trucks coming into us weekly from our trusted agents in Belgium and the  Netherlands who source products worldwide for us. We have a container of fruit coming from Poland at least once a month.  We also regularly import  from China, India, Canada and wherever we need to source premium products for our customers from.

Because of our location and logistic experience  any stocked product can be only a day or two  away from your factory at any given time. The cold store is our own, and because our overheads are minimal, we are able to be very competitive on price at all times.

Most of our wholesale frozen fruit goes to jam makers, bakers, and manufacturers of various food products around Ireland. We also sell to smaller suppliers through our cash and carry service. And recently, we’ve begun to work as suppliers for the many juice bars that have opened around the country.

Our Farm

Our farm in North Cork is very wildlife friendly and this can be seen by the huge presence of all sorts of flora and fauna. We are in the Rural Environment Protection Scheme (REPS)funded by the EU, and crops are also grown especially for the benefit for game birds and wildlife.

We have two small ponds on the farm, and on occasion one can see otters, newts, and lampreys which are common here. The Hen Harrier also hunts here at times as well as Kestrels, Sparrow Hawks and Merlins. At night we have the Barn Owl and Long Eared Owl. Conservation headlands are used in the fields as well as beetle banks to encourage insects. Trees and shrubs, such as buddleia, are chosen especially for their benefit to wildlife.

In conjunction with Rathcormac Game And Wildlife Club we are re-introducing the native Grey Partridge to to our parish and surrounding areas. Through the club’s website we also sell game crops and wildflower seed mixes.
